4TH CHAMBER MUSIC FESTIVAL 2015
Human voice has undoubtedly been the first musical instrument in history and has remained since then, a key element in all types of musical creation.
In its 4th year, Minoa Palace Chamber Music Festival presents 2 beautiful vocal works of the romantic period, Brahms Two Songs op.91 and the Respighi’s lyrical poem ‘Il Tramonto’ (The Sunset) for the unusual combination of voice and string quartet. Chausson’s Concerto complements the previous two works in the passionate mood of the first concert.
The second concert is devoted to the musical theme of ‘La Folia’. It is one of the several dances and dance songs of popular origin which developed in the Iberian Peninsula in late Middle Ages. It is widely familiar as one of the most popular themes for variation: Archangelo Corelli, Alessandro Scarlatti, Antonio Vivaldi and Buononcini, in Italy, Marais and D’Anglebert, in France, Johann Sebastian and Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, in Germany, Franz Liszt and Sergei Rachmaninoff, were all charmed by the simplicity of this tune and challenged themselves in composing their own variations. Among them, we chose some of the most original, from the 17th to the 21st century.
